Special Edition Highlighting Northwest Georgia's One-Stop Shops
The Career Depot at Northwestern Technical Institute (formerly Walker Tech) is open to the public Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Representatives from the Institute, Family and Children Services, the Department of Labor, Adult Literacy, Job Training Partnership Program (JTPA), and Rehabilitation Services are onsite at regularly scheduled times to provide information about their services.
The Career Depot has an extensive resource room and staff on hand to help customers prepare resumes and write cover letters. They have free internet service with access to the Georgia Department of Labor job bank and the Northwest Georgia Career Depot Web Site. For individuals not sure of the type work in which they may be interested, the Career Depot offers free interest and aptitude assessment tests and career advisement. In addition, The Clothes Closet has a wide variety of work clothes on hand for job interviews and as a startup wardrobe. All services offered at the Career Depot are free.

The Dalton One-Stop Shop is located at the Department of Labor Field Service Office, 1406 Chattanooga Avenue, Dalton, Georgia 30722, phone (706) 272-2301. It is open Monday through Friday during regular office hours.
Representatives from Adult Literacy, Dalton College, Family and Children Services, the Job Training Partnership Program (JTPA), New Connections to Work, and Vocational Rehabilitation have regularly scheduled office hours at the One-Stop.
The One-Stop has an extensive resource library available with information on how to conduct a job search, write resumes and cover letters, and prepare for job interviews.
Coming in August: The Dalton Office will have additional computers available to the public with internet access for job search and programs for preparing resumes and cover letters. They will also have a fax, copier, and scanner available for job seekers. You may call the Dalton Office at (706) 272-2301 for more information.
The Calhoun/Gordon County Campus of Coosa Valley Technical Institutenow has a virtual one-stop computer laboratory open to the public on Saturdays (excluding holidays) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Center has an up-to-date computer lab where the public may come and surf the internet, update their computer skills, learn to use the newest software, or prepare their resumes. Staff are on hand to assist with computer and internet skills. Resource books are available to help prepare cover letters, resumes, etc.
The computer lab provides a great opportunity for people who have never used a computer to gain experience and to learn to use the internet.
All of the services are provided FREE by Coosa Valley Technical Institute, the Northwest Georgia Private Industry Council, Job Training Partnership Program, and the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. Northwest Georgia has an extensive web site that serves as an on-line, One-Stop Shop for business, education and training, and community resources information.
The Career Depot web site is divided into six main sections. The sections address specific areas of need or interest. They include Job Search, Employer Resources, Education and Training, Business and Industry, Community Resources, and Career Depot News.
Job Search consists of two sections: Help Wanted Listings and Job Search Resources. The Help Wanted Listings include links to Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, and America's Job Banks; Atlanta and Chattanooga newspaper help wanted ads, and local employers' on-line employment opportunities. This section also includes addresses and telephone numbers of Department of Labor and military recruiting offices.
Job Search Resources include links to information about preparing resumes and cover letters, growth occupations, and searching for employment through the internet. Most recently added are links to a wide-variety of self-assessment tools. Many of the assessment tests may be scored online.
Employer Resources include links to job banks, the Employment and Training Administration, OSHA, and White House Employment information. It also has addresses and telephone numbers of local Department of Labor offices as well as information about employer assistance programs such as the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
Business and Industry includes links to business resources on the internet, locations of Chambers of Commerce offices, tips for entrepreneurs, and economic development resources. It also links to Employer Resources.
Education and Training includes locations of Adult Learning Programs, Rehabilitation Services, Family and Children Services, Head Start, JTPA, Libraries, New Connections to Work, Public Schools K-12, County Extension Services, and Technical Institutes and Colleges. There are links to the home pages of the technical institutes, colleges and public schools in our region.
Community Resources include links to consumer information on the internet; locations of government offices and health centers; resources for food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and recreation. Also included are resources for veterans and senior citizens.
Career Depot News lists the locations of and brief descriptions of the One-Stop Shops operating in Northwest Georgia. It also includes copies of all newsletters that have been published.

The newest One-Stop Shop will open at Coosa Valley Technical Institute in Rome this summer. A number of agencies, including the Departments of Labor and Human Resources and the Northwest Georgia Private Industry Council, are collaborating with Coosa Valley Tech on this project.
The Rome Career Center will provide a comprehensive array of one-stop shop services for job seekers and individuals seeking educational opportunities.
To further the goal of having a common, seamless workforce development system, the Northwest Georgia Workforce Development Project partners will establish one-stop/full-service career centers throughout the region. They will develop and maintain a web site to provide universal access by our customers to information about resources in our region in the areas of employment, education and training, supportive services, etc. In establishing centers and developing services, we will focus always on customer need so that in the delivery of services the customer is the driving force of the process.
