The Area Agency on Aging has programs in all counties to provide free or reduced cost meals for qualifying senior citizens. Meals are served at central locations in each county or may be delivered to home-bound seniors. There may be a waiting list for the programs. The Northwest Georgia area includes Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield Counties. Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can mean being hit, beaten, raped, threatened, controlled or kept from getting what you need to live (such as food, medicine, or a home) by a spouse, life partner, ex-spouse or ex-partner.  Call 1-800-33-HAVEN (1-800-334-2836) to speak to the domestic violence agency nearest you.  You can call from anywhere in Georgia.  They can give you and your children a place to stay, legal help and other resources.  All services are free and confidential.  You are not alone.  Call 1-800-33-HAVEN.

Georgia Food Bank is an independent food bank located in Haralson County but serves families directly that live in a 14-county area in Georgia and 4 counties in Alabama. They operate as a food bank and as a food pantry servicing both individual families and other non-profit organizations.

GovBenefits.gov helps citizens access government benefit eligibility information through a free, confidential, and easy-to-use online screening tool. After answering some basic questions, the user receives a customized report listing the benefit programs for which the user, or person for whom he or she is entering information, may be eligible.

Warehouse of Hope, Inc., 100 Hunter Road, Douglasville, GA 30134; (770) 489-0509; food bank serves people from Paulding, Cobb, and Douglas counties, people who have bills that consume 90% of their income may qualify for free food; a job partnership program is offered to assist individuals in obtaining employment, donations are needed for all non-food household items.

Pickens County

Community Thrift Store, 127 Sanders Street, Jasper GA (706) 253-7770, on Jasper's Main St. go north past the courthouse and the old jail to Sanders St; turn left on Sanders. Sells donated clothing, household items, furniture, etc.  to the public at greatly reduced prices or gives to those who qualify; provides education and referrals for those in need; all revenue that is in excess of expenses is used in the community to support programs that help community members. Monday to Saturday 10:00 am  - 4:00 pm. Donations and volunteers welcome.

The children come through the court system and Family & Children Services because of abuse, neglect, or other circumstances. Hope House provides temporary shelter and support until a more permanent solution can be arranged.

Clothes Closet at West LaFayette is in the old elementary school building at the corner of Chestnut and West Main (GA 193) in LaFayette. The closet is open Wednesdays from 10 AM to 1 PM and by appointment for people who have an emergency or work during the usual operating hours. The closet is physically located in Walker County, but we offer clothing to anyone who comes by, regardless of their home or the reason why they need the clothes.
