 WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE

North Metro Technical College, as a unit of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, is one of the local partners involved in implementing training provisions of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). As a partner, we work closely with other agencies such as the Georgia Departments of Labor, Human Resources, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Coosa Valley Regional Development Center (SDA-01) and the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services, among others, on behalf of students and employers in our service area. The Georgia Department of Labor has been named by the Governor as the lead agency in this effort.

Eligibility for WIA programs will be determined for applicants through universal, core and intensive services provided in a jointly-operated and sponsored One-Stop delivery system which has electronic connectivity. The One-Stop will be developed under the authority of a regional and local Workforce Investment Board.

If you have questions or need more specific information, please contact the following Workforce Development staff for updates and other information about how the Workforce Investment Act can help you as a student or as an employer in our service area.

 TECH PREP

Tech Prep is a challenging program of study that connects the academic and technical courses taken in high school with a Certificate, Diploma, and/or Associate Degree program offered in cooperation with North Metro Tech.

These programs are accomplished by the development of a personal education plan that includes both high school and postsecondary course work that is built around a career goal. As a result, graduates are assured a smooth transition from high school to North Metro Tech and its full complement of cooperative postsecondary programs.

SCHOOL-TO-WORK

The Georgia School-to-Work program complements existing education-improvement initiatives by identifying gaps that impede a smooth transition into the workplace for the state's secondary and postsecondary student population. This program focuses on helping local communities improve methods of preparing all students for career success.
